Phishing campaigns are seasonal. They tend to intensify in the “holiday” seasons. It’s easier to trick people into opening up package delivery notifications during the peak of holiday shopping.
Spikes in phishing attacks are also attributed to big cybercrime campaigns that often target specific companies, industries or country regions.
However, the past month phishing attacks have shown the different pattern due to the rise of telecommuting. The process of “going remote” may seem as unassuming today, but if not handled correctly can result in major security compromises.
Phishing attacks attempt to trick the recipient into disclosing user credentials or infect the recipient’s computer via delivering a malicious file.
“Remote Ready” organisations with proper security infrastructure, user training and established procedures appear to be unaffected.
Organisations that recently rushed into switching their employees to working remotely are currently on the receiving end of phishing attacks. Given the success rate of these attacks, every such organisation needs an effective phishing response ASAP. It must include at least the following:

It is highly recommended that Google Safe Browsing feature is enabled on remote worker’s computers. Alternatively, a free uBlock Origin cross-browser extension should be used for content-filtering and blocking malicious sites used in phishing attacks.
